Bob Tilton!

That's right, brother Bob is back with a new show, a new book, a new wife, and the same old heresy he's been pushing for years.

Tilton laid low for a while after a nasty divorce from his second wife Leigh Valentine. It wasn't long though before he was back on TV in select markets and on the cable channel B.E.T.

He had been broadcasting re-runs of his old show and using an automated 800 number for people to call in and "make a vow"!

"Hello, this is Bob Tilton and I'm so glad you called. To make a vow press 1, to leave a prayer request press 2......"

Bob has refined religious scamming to a science. He has no church, he has no employees, or at least very few, and while he's using re-runs he has no production costs. Pay for the airtime and sit back and watch the money roll in!

But last week Bob began running new shows. I guess the old ones were losing some of their earning power.

On the show Bob introduced his new wife. This is wife #3 if you’re keeping score at home.

1Tim 3:2
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

The word Bishop means - overseership, office, charge, the office of an elder or the overseer or presiding officers of a Christian church

Paul says that those in authority in the church must be the husband of one wife, not three. So, even though Tilton still uses the title of pastor, according to the word of God he is disqualified from holding any position of authority in the church and that includes teaching.

Strike one!

Bob's new book is called "How to be Rich and Have Everything You Want in Life"

1 Tim 6:9
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

Are you seeking to be rich? Well guess what. God says you will fall into a snare, a trap and be drowned in destruction. This is a promise. In fact Bob Tiltons life is a testimony to the truth of this scripture.

Paul goes on to say in the next verse that the love of money is the root of ALL evil and that some, in it's pursuit have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Bob Tiltons pursuit of money has led to the loss of his family, his church, his reputation, 2 divorces. Looks to me like this scripture is the story of his life.

Do you desire to drown yourself in destruction like Tilton has?

Strike two!

Tilton of course is still teaching the old "make a vow of faith" heresy.

Math 5:33-36
Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

A vow is an oath, a pledge, a promise and Jesus says not to do it. In fact Jesus is saying here that it is particularly offensive for a man to swear an oath (vow or promise) and presume that God will honor it. That is exactly what Bob is teaching when he says to make a vow of faith (meaning a pledge of money that you don't have) and expect God to provide it.

Tilton is actually teaching something that directly contradicts the words of Jesus.

Strike three – You’re out Bob!

I was a member of Tiltons church for 17 years and worked full time for him for 6 years. It saddens me to see that Bob has learned nothing from the chastisement that God put him through many years ago.

The Bible says that God chastens those he loves. I believe that what happened to Bob was God's attempt to bring him to repentance. I fear now however that Tiltons refusal to turn from his iniquity may mean he will be lost forever.

Bob Tilton is a sad example of what happens when we continually refuse the truth.

Don't let this happen to you!

2 Thess 2:10-12
.....because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
